What is Black Girls Do Science?

Black Girls Do Science TM (BGDS) is a program designed to inspire Black girls to explore career and educational opportunities in STEAM during 4th-8th grades. We are a volunteer-based program that holds a one day yearly event filled with workshops. Research shows that performing STEAM activities at a young age has future positive impacts on both math and overall academic achievement. In support, BDGS provides a series of workshops that stimulate interest in problem solving, math, and literacy. We pride ourselves in shaping how our participants see themselves by offering workshops that are majority led by Black women from academia and industry. Through our program, we aim to reduce racial and gender gaps in STEAM fields by dispelling stereotypes surrounding who a scientist is, and through the exploration of STEAM topics.
